Yesterday evening I set out for the cinema to watch a film I'd like to watch since it has come out in theaters near me (about 3 months now). I planned to catch a bus that takes me there in 10 minutes and I made it on time to the bus-stop and then...it hasn't arrived. As it was too late then to get there by any other means of transport on time (and because I hate to miss even the first 3 seconds) I abandoned the project, taking this sign as the finger of God pointing in the direction of not watching that film yesterday evening. I took a walk around the block instead and even ventured into an Irish pub for a glass of wine. And later I watched a perfectly enjoyable thriller-sort of movie called "White Sands" showing Willem Dafoe and Samuel L. Jackson when they were still in kindergarten.
A propos of this I was wondering if I can still remember the circumstances of watching certain films and if it has anything to do with the aftertaste they leave in me? For example I remember that I watched my first Inarritu on dvd, on a hot Saturday afternoon, sitting on a couch in Sydney; I watched Magnolia in Művész ( in one of the smallest halls) as well as The Others (in the biggest one - sitting in the front all alone, as a consequence I didn't dare to sleep for two nights at least); I watched Bin-Jip in Paris in a basement art-cinema where the electricity was down every 20 minutes; About Schmidt next to a couple who were eating chips till about the half of the movie; an Antonioni in the filmclub of my high-school years ...and so on.
When I think about the films I've seen I instantly see the surroundings I was in when I watched them. I wonder if it would have been a different experience to see them elsewhere/another time/with somebody else/alone? Do I actually remember some of them just because of the circumstances or is it the other way around?

For me, going alone works the best. First time I went to the cinema alone just to feel sorry for myself, but it became my preferred way of watching films. I remember Big Fish, only seven of us in the chamber of Toldy, I was the only one really enjoying the film. Peter Pan similarly. On the other hand, watching Accidentally love alone was horrid. Repeat with my man recently was quite OK.
And I remember Nyocker, with you and i, and I had fun just because you were there too...
I guess that atmosphere and company is very important in enjoying the movie. I guess that's why home movie could'nt kill cinema.
I love to go alone for the same reasons (watching romantic movies wouldn't fit my image anyway). Besides, if I take somebody with me I feel responsible for his or her well-being - if the film sucks and I watch it alone, I simply feel sorry for the time-loss. If I took somebody, I keep checking their faces for contentment throughout the movie and feel obliged to apologize afterwards for hours, it if hadn't met the standards...
I remember how it drove me crazy to listen to the sighs and mouns of K. whenever a scene was not perfect or according to his liking (we went to cinema all the time and he hated 80% of the movies we watched).
PS - we haven't really watched many movies together with you guys, (except "Life of Brian" every 31st of December), have we? There was "English Girls" I watched with i ages ago and of course "Nyocker" and SinCity with koxkitty quite recently...do I leave out something? Oh yeah, Grease, for example :-)
And Sky above Berlin? (I don't know the proper title)In Orokmozgo, with the last two tickets.

Ok, ok, I heard it the first time already :-D
And yeah, I almost forgot! Der Himmel über Berlin in örökmozgó! (also know as "Wings of desire" according to imdb - what a stupid title...) It's here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093191/
I remember I wanted to show you "Faraway, so close!" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107209/)that is the sequel of what we watched. Go and have a look at that one as well, if you have a chance!
Yess, and one more:
CLOSER!
The killer movie for all those who tried to love someone.
Hey, I've just put "Blower's Daughter" among the songs as a souvenir of that. Happy? :-)
Shall I put up Radiohead's "Creep" as well to re-create entirely the ambiance of the evening? :-)
Sure!
I still love that!
I am not building my profile with great enthusiasm, lazy dog.
