"I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks."

I was reluctant to read this book for quite a long time: based on the synopsis, it seemed to talk more about racism and historical events in the Southern States of the US... hmm. I finally ventured into reading it and can now state clearly that it is more about childhood than anything else. And folks.

"...and I tried to frame a discreet question: 'Why do you do like you do?'
' - ...you mean why do I pretend? Well, it's very simple' he said. 'Some folks don't like the way I live. Now I could say I don't care if they don't like it. I do say I don't care if they don't like it, right enough - but I don't say the hell with 'em, see?'
Dill and I said 'No, Sir'.
'I try to give them a reason, you see. It helps folks if they can latch on to a reason.(...) It ain't honest but it's mighty helpful to folks. Secretly, Miss Finch, I'm not much of a drinker, but you see they could never, never understand that I live like I do because that's the way I want to live."

More water

This picture was taken last November, on the day when aliens from Tralfamador (God bless you, Mr. Vonnegut!) attacked Vancouver.
The place is called Spanish Bay, which is 15 minutes drive from our place (a couple more from these pictures and you'll get the exact coordinates of our home).
Special dedication to Tarelle....it is worth to read the older posts again...

Where are we?

Not very hard question.

The reason of everything bad and the source of all wisdom ...

Un petit air de printemps

When a haze of fog grow up from the the fields in the spring...

I miss France, yes I do. And I miss the French farmers. I miss when they turn over the soil in the fields and the early spring sun grows an evanescent haze from the fresh and fragile clods. I miss it all and wish to send it to you all,

with a specal thought to you, i,

with love.

practical

Hi cosmopolitans!

I have a very practical question: we need a one-night accomodation in London, for the night of July 23, preferably something on the Luton-Stanford axis and preferably something cheap. Bad-and-breakfast, backpackers, whatever. Any suggestions?

Traveling heart

There I was, sitting in the sand, staring at the waves of the Pacific ocean.
And, maybe for the last time in my life, I had nothing and nobody to take care of, to worry about or to adjust to.
There I was, on my own, watching waves, counting heartbeats, and finding peace again by leaving everything behind.

The best thing

To drift slowly into pleasant dreams in the caressing arms of the loved one. To feel the perfume of his skin and the gentle breathing that moves his chest. To know that there is no better place on Earth and no better time to exist.

koxkitty

If we manage to get to Castro today, she will start posting. She promised me. I will do my best ;)
And we will go on this train: do you recognise it?

PS: For all who understands it: ...

I'm on

Hi Guys,

Yes, I was very happy to see all this blogging-activity going on at full speed. Thanks! :-)

Also, I was constructing posts in my head all the time, so let's hope some of them will find their way to the keyboard.

Till then, here is a picture to cheer you up (if you solve the riddle, your prize is a free laugh)

And because there is more to Poland then loads of W's, here is one of my favourite moments at 2000 meters above sea-level (and I have hidden two mountaineers on the picture to make it more exciting):

I'm off

A small quiz for you till I am back: where I am going for the rest of the week, based on the picture?
I won't be on the net till the weekend so I can check the answers only after I came back. The award is dried dates (I mean the fruit) from there, so it 's worth to compete!
Anyways, I will miss you.

labels

On our blog the most often used one is "nostalgia" with 14 entry.
Second comes "theory of" and "drinks" with 8-8.
Third place is shared by "looser" and "music" with 7-7.

I mean, it tells a lot about us...:)

Where will I be... ?

... between the 24th of August and the 2nd of September?

Alas! No more Balkán...
(sorry, the photo is a bit under-exposed,
but I guess the spirit of the place requires it)

Where are we?

Dont think too much, yes, it is.

Let's be ironic

Now for nanaimo's favourite Morissette song:

It's like rai-yee-aiiiiii-ain! Do you remember the video clip? It was my MTV & MCM period. I liked it a lot.

How about

...
How about me not blaming you for everything
How about me enjoying the moment for once
...
How about no longer being masochistic
How about remembering your divinity
...
The moment I let go of it was
The moment I got more than I could handle
The moment I jumped off of it
Was the moment I touched down
...
Please, meet my favourite Morisette-song. I've heard it the other day in the metro (yes, they play music in Brussel's underground stations). How sad that it hadn't lost anything from its actuality since the time I've heard it first! How about it does?

Technical problems

There is actually a new post - but because I have started it earlier, it appears under that day (which is the 20th of May). And also the "Comments" have disappeared there...no idea, why...mysteries are all around us.

Anyway, have a look there!

Je voudrais une bouteille de vin*

So this is the point where I get on the train (not immediately but soon enough) to be greeted an hour and half later at Gare du Nord by i...to start a weekend of lazy sitting-around-in-nice-places. While we are having coffee. Maybe a crème brûlée (without kiwi). At places like this:

Without the rain, of course. We will miss you guys!

Note to i in case she invests in an internet-coffee-session in the meantime: I am invited to a party Saturday night, wanna join me? :-)

Bill Richardson: Bachelor Brothers Bedside Companion

This is a book I found in my favorite second-hand bookstore.
The design and title wasn't too promising, but it won some local awards what made me dare to buy it.
I am thrilled. Such a variety of topics and styles, so gay and so entertaining! I'm almost finished with it and it feels like a good warm blanket slipping slowly to the floor. I would like to send a copy for all of you (I wish I knew your addresses) it is such a treasure!
Let me quote from the "Prelude".
Over the years, the brothers have developed the habit of setting down in a book their observations of the day by day goings-on in their inn and community. Here, they keep a record of their own reading and attach a copy out of informational bonbons that strike them in the moment as entertaining or useful or both.
The result is this bedside companion, a gumbo of poems, formulae, letters from guests, trivia, receipts, lists, sundries and notions, charms and incantations: textual relaxant that can be taken is small doses by a reader looking for a minute or two of diversion before surrendering to Morpheus. The words are meant to amuse and distract. Now and then they might provoke a thought or two, but never so serious a speculation that it can't be set to one side and dealt with in the morning.

Just like our little blog, don't you think? Maybe that makes me love this book so much.

Ps. The Batchelor Brothers and their Bed&Breakfast (BBB&B) is entirely imaginary.
